2nd Offshore Wind Supply Chain Conference
05.04.11On the 22nd of March, INTPOW organised its second Offshore Wind Supply Chain Conference at Felix Conference Centre at Aker Brygge in Oslo. Around 110 delegates and speakers discussed the future of the offshore wind market and the implications for the emerging Norwegian supply chain.
To deploy offshore wind in Europe and elsewhere, an entire new offshore wind power industry and supply chain must be developed on a scale that will match that of the North Sea oil and gas exploitation. While the Norwegian offshore industry has the competence and is particularly well placed as potential suppliers to the offshore wind development in the North Sea, companies from the whole North Sea region will be needed to add enough capacity to enable this huge offshore wind building program to be realized within the planning timeframes.
Statkraft set the theme and discussed the possibilities an challenges for the emerging Norwegian supply chain in international waters. A number of prominent speakers from the British and German authorities, industry organization and industry participants along the whole value chain where present. RenewableUK and the British Department of Energy and Climate Change both gave a diverse deep-dive into the opportunities and challenges of the huge deployment program in the UK sector of the NorthSea. The German German Wind Association pictured the opportunities and challenges of the German market while the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy introduced the delegates to it’s offshore wind expectations.
BVG Associates and Wind: research respectively presented the UK and German supply chain surveys commissioned by INTPOW and Innovation Norway while Multiconsult’s main takes from the Norwegian Supply Chain mapping.
Industry majors Gamesa and SubSea7 gave insight into their strategies in the offshore wind markets combined with some purchasing projections while Green Giraffe Energy Bankers, Eksportfinans and DnBNOR rounded the event of with an interesting discussion on funding of offshore wind projects and the supply chain.
In the afternoon, delegates and other invitees gathered to continue discussions and taste the offerings at the networking reception on the invitation of the UK Trade & Investment at the British Embassador’s residence in Oslo.
