The Norwegian Minister of Trade and Industry, Monica Mæland and Turkey`s Energy Minister, Taner Yildiz signed a memorandum of Understanding on energy cooperation during the Norwegian King and Queen`s state visit to Turkey on November 5-7.

The signing of the MoU formalises the already close cooperation between Turkey and Norway in the energy field and emphasises the great potential in further cooperation. Both His Majesty King Harald V and Turkey`s President Abdullah Gül were present during the signing.

The Turkish energy market is the fastest growing in Europe and has tremendous potential in renewable energy. The MoU comprises the whole energy field. Hydro power and the petroleum sector will however be the main focus area of the cooperation between the two countries.

State secretary to the Norwegian Minister of Petroleum and Energy and His Majesty King Harald V also emphasised the huge potential for cooperation between the two countries during the “Turkish Norwegian Partnership Forum on Renewable Energy” that INTPOW, in collaboration with Innovation Norway, organised on November 6.
