Aibel’s Dolwin Beta substation lifted in Dubai

10.12.13

Dubai shipyard Drydocks World has hailed a landmark “heavy lift” in the construction of Aibel’s Dolwin Beta offshore wind HVDC platform.

The shipyard said the 10,000-tonne topside of the first gravity base was lifted almost 53 metres from the dock bottom as part of the mating operation between the topsides and the substructure. Aibel is project manager for the Dolwin Beta project for Germany’s 900MW Dolwin 2 transmission cluster and has ordered the substation from Drydocks World in Dubai - the largest offshore wind platform structure ever commissioned.
