10.11.09

Rainpower has been awarded a contract to build four small hydropower plants for a Turkish customer. The contract, worth more than NOK 170 million, is awarded by the Spanish privately owned renewable energy company Gruppo Essentium.

The technology was tested at Rainpower's laboratories in Trondheim. Since then, the company has actively invested in the Turkish hydropower market.

On November 2009, the company arranged a small gathering where Norwegian key leading people were invited to meet the Turkish delegation and to participate of the technologic demonstration followed by a signing ceremony.

Key participating guests as state secretary Mr. Robin Kåss, GIEKs Managing Director Mrs. Wenche Nistad, and representatives from INTPOW and the Turkish Embassy in Norway were there to join the event.

"Norwegian hydropower industry has a long history and Norwegian technology keeps a leading position in relation to hydropower constructions. This contract shows us that the Norwegian hydropower capability is actually extremely competitive on an international basis.

I believe todays signing ceremony was a great way to show that closer cooperation between the industry and the government through INTPOW is remarkably important. It is very positive that Rainpower may contribute to a higher energy security for Turkey, and that this contract contributes to a closer economical connection between Turkey and Norway", said Mr. Robin Kåss during his visit to Trondheim.

Turkish representatives were also present at the ceremony, were a contract of 170 million kroner was signed-up. This means that apart from the upgrading of the Keban hydro station, Rainpower acquired a huge opportunity on positioning Norwegian capabilities in the Turkish market.
