INTPOW member Fred. Olsen Windcarrier has won a contract to supply an installation vessel for loading, carriage and installation of wind turbines at the 450MW Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind farm in the German part of the North Sea.
The scope of the contract includes project management, engineering, provision of sea fastening, vessel mobilisation and de-mobilisation.
Borkum Riffgrund 2, owned by DONG Energy, is located approximately 57 kilometres off the north-west coast of Germany, next to the 312MW Borkum Riffgrund 1 offshore wind farm.
In August 2015, DONG signed an agreement with MHI Vestas Offshore Wind for the delivery of the V164-8.0MW wind turbines for Borkum Riffgrund 2. The agreement between DONG and MHI Vestas Offshore Wind is conditional upon DONG making final investment decision on the project.
Borkum Riffgrund 2 could be built after 2020 if grid connection is granted and DONG makes a final investment decision in the project. Application for grid connection is expected to be submitted in 2017/2018.
